The short answer
We install printed murals in Cutler Bay homes by checking every panel, prepping and priming the wall, setting a plumb starting line and hanging the panels in sequence so the image flows across seams. Measure first, order with bleed, and let us confirm the panel layout before install day.
Families in Cutler Bay ask us about murals more than almost any other wallcovering for kids' rooms, playrooms and home gyms, and adults are not far behind with tropical leaves, ocean horizons and soft watercolor skies for bedrooms and dining areas. A mural is a large printed picture split into panels, and hanging one well means lining up those panels so the image reads as one piece. WallStyle Installers, about 7 miles away in Miami, installs murals across 33189 and 33190.
Popular mural spots in Cutler Bay houses
Single-story homes and townhouses in town usually have at least one long, plain wall that suits a picture. The places homeowners choose most often are below.
- Kids' bedrooms and nurseries, often with animals, maps or clouds
- Playrooms and bonus rooms converted from garages
- The wall behind a dining table in an open great room
- Home gyms, where a landscape replaces a blank wall
- Primary bedrooms, behind the headboard
Three things to settle before you order
Size first. Measure the full width and height at several points, since floors and ceilings are rarely perfectly level. Add a few inches of bleed on every side so we can trim to the real edges without losing part of the image. We are happy to measure for you so the numbers are right.
Crop second. Murals can be scaled and positioned. Decide what should sit at eye level, what will be hidden behind a dresser or bed, and whether any important detail would fall on an outlet or light switch.
Material third. For bedrooms and dens, non-woven murals are easy to hang and remove later. For playrooms and kids' rooms that will see crayons and sticky hands, a vinyl-coated or scrubbable finish makes more sense.
Garage conversions and block walls
Converted garages are common in the area, and they often become playrooms or gyms. Those walls may be bare block, block with a thin plaster coat or newer drywall. Each needs different prep. Bare or roughly plastered block needs to be smoothed, either with a skim coat or a liner, before a mural goes on, or the texture will show through the print.
Block walls on the exterior side can also hold moisture after heavy rain, which is frequent from May through October. We check moisture on any outside wall before hanging. If the room has only a window unit or limited air conditioning, we talk through whether the space will stay stable enough for the adhesive to cure.
Our installation process
On install day we lay the panels out in order on a clean floor and compare them to the layout sheet that came with the mural. We look for print flaws, missing panels or color differences between panels before any adhesive comes out.
After priming, we draw a plumb line for the first panel. Each panel is pasted, positioned and matched to its neighbor at the most visible part of the image, usually around eye level. We smooth from the center outward, trim the edges, cut around outlets and switches and then reinstall the cover plates. When all panels are up, we inspect the seams under the room's own light and adjust anything that is not lying flat.
Custom images and photo murals
Not every mural comes from a catalog. Some homeowners print a favorite photo, a child's drawing scaled up or an image of a place that means something to the family. Custom murals can look striking, but the source file decides the result. A photo that looks sharp on a phone may turn soft or pixelated when enlarged to cover a whole wall. Ask the print company to send a proof at full scale, or at least a section printed at actual size, before approving the order.
Color is the other surprise. Screens show brighter, more saturated color than ink on wallpaper does. If accurate color matters, order a printed sample first and look at it on the wall where the mural will hang, under both daylight and lamp light. We are glad to look at proofs with you and point out where seams will fall, so faces or fine details do not end up split between two panels.
After install and around storm season
Keep the AC at its regular setting for a couple of days so the adhesive cures evenly. If a tropical storm or hurricane is in the forecast during the June to November season, we may move the date so the room does not sit without air conditioning while the paste sets.
We also hang murals in Homestead, Florida City, Coral Gables, South Miami and West Miami.
