The short answer
Palmetto Estates is about four miles from WallStyle Installers, so scheduling is easy. We install, remove and repair wallcoverings of every type here and in Cutler Bay, South Miami, Coral Gables, West Miami and Sweetwater.
Just four miles east of our base, Palmetto Estates is close enough that we can often fit a consultation into the same day you reach out. This unincorporated Miami-Dade community is surrounded by places we know well, including Cutler Bay, South Miami, Coral Gables, West Miami and Sweetwater. People here ask us to do everything from replacing a tired kitchen border to papering an entire great room in grasscloth. Below you will find how we tackle those projects, the questions we ask before starting, and the local conditions we plan for.
Questions we ask before quoting your project
Good wallpaper work starts with a conversation, not a ladder. When we visit a home in Palmetto Estates, we want to understand the room and the people using it. Those answers decide the material, the prep and the layout.
- Is there existing paper, and do you know how many layers?
- Which walls face outside or get direct afternoon sun?
- Does the room see steam, splashes or frequent cleaning?
- Do you plan to stay long term, or might you change the look in a couple of years?
- Have you already chosen a paper, and what is its pattern repeat?
- Are there any spots where water has come in during past storms?
Matching the product to the room
A powder room with no window, a sunny Florida room and a kid's bedroom all call for different wallcoverings. In bathrooms and laundry spaces, vinyl stands up to steady moisture. In a living room or study that stays air-conditioned, natural grasscloth, linen or a paper-backed print brings texture without much risk.
For tenants and anyone who likes to change décor often, peel and stick wallpaper is worth a look, as long as the wall is smooth and primed. On ceilings, we lean toward lighter-weight materials that are easier to hang overhead. And for offices or shops, commercial-grade vinyl wallcovering provides a surface that can be wiped down daily.
Prep is most of the job
Walls in Palmetto Estates homes range from smooth drywall to plaster over concrete block, often with patches, texture or old adhesive residue. New paper will show every flaw underneath, especially a shiny or metallic finish.
Our wall preparation and repair work typically includes removing old coverings, washing off residue, filling holes and dents, feathering repairs smooth and applying a primer designed for wallcovering. If the surface was painted with a glossy finish, we degloss it so the adhesive has something to hold.
Living with South Florida weather
Our climate is tropical. From May to October, expect heat, humidity and almost daily thunderstorms. From November into April it is drier and more comfortable, but never truly dry. Wallcoverings react to sudden swings in moisture, which is why we prefer to install when the home's AC has been running normally for a while.
Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. If a storm watch is issued, we may move your appointment. After a storm, we check walls for hidden dampness before hanging anything, because trapped moisture can lead to mildew behind the paper.
Accent walls, murals and statement ceilings
Not every project needs four walls. A single accent wall behind a bed or dining table can carry a bold pattern that would overwhelm a full room. Murals turn a blank wall into a scene and require careful panel sequencing so the image lines up perfectly. Ceiling wallpaper, meanwhile, draws the eye upward and works especially well in dining rooms, entryways and small baths.
We can help you decide which of these makes sense for your space and how much material to order.
Getting started
Since we are so close, the first step is usually a quick visit to measure and look at the walls. We will explain the prep needed, talk through material options and set a date that works around your schedule. On the day, we protect your floors and furniture, hang the paper with tight seams and clean up before we go.
