The short answer
We install panelized and custom-printed murals in Sweetwater homes and condos. Proper sizing, a flat primed wall and careful panel alignment are what make a mural look like one continuous image.
Ordering a custom mural online is easy. Getting a few dozen square feet of printed image to sit flat, straight and continuous on a real wall is the hard part. WallStyle Installers hangs printed wallpaper murals for Sweetwater homeowners who want a single bold picture rather than a repeating pattern: a misty forest in a home office, a cityscape behind a sectional, a watercolor sky in a nursery, or a vintage world map in a teen's room. We drive about 12 miles north from our Miami base to install them. Below is how we help you choose and size a mural, how we deal with the walls and climate typical in Sweetwater, and what a mural day actually involves.
Choosing an image that fits the room
Scale matters with murals. A huge close-up of a flower can overwhelm a small Sweetwater bedroom, while a wide landscape with a low horizon line can make that same room feel more open. Think about what will sit in front of the wall. If a headboard or sofa covers the lower third, the interesting part of the image should sit higher.
Color also plays a role. A mural with a lot of dark tones will absorb light in rooms with limited windows. Lighter, airier scenes tend to suit interior rooms or spaces where blinds stay closed against the afternoon sun.
Sizing and ordering correctly
Custom murals are printed to dimensions you give the supplier, and that number is easy to get wrong. Walls are rarely perfectly square. We measure in several places and recommend you add the bleed your supplier suggests so the edges can be trimmed cleanly. If you prefer, we can measure for you before you place the order.
We also ask about material. Nonwoven and vinyl-coated murals cope better with humidity and are easier to remove later. Thin paper murals can look lovely but are less forgiving.
- Note doors, windows, outlets and thermostats on a simple sketch
- Decide whether the image should wrap a corner or stop at it
- Ask the supplier how panels overlap or butt together
- Check the delivery for damage and confirm panel numbering before install day
Preparing a Sweetwater wall for a mural
Large photographic images show surface flaws more than most patterns. Spray texture, which is common on local drywall, needs to be skimmed smooth. Old anchor holes and dents get filled and sanded. Gloss or semi-gloss paint gets scuffed or primed so paste can grip.
Exterior walls built of concrete block can hold moisture after heavy rain. If we see signs of dampness, we recommend correcting it before installation. A mural over a damp wall may bubble or develop mildew, and replacing a single printed panel can mean reordering the whole set.
What mural day looks like
We lay the panels out in order and confirm the image runs correctly. A vertical plumb line is marked for the first panel, positioned so the image is level even if the corner is not. Paste goes on according to the product type, and each panel is placed, smoothed from the center outward, and aligned to the artwork of the previous panel.
Joints get special attention. We line up details across the seam, such as a branch or a window frame in the image, rather than relying on the panel edge alone. Trimming at the ceiling, floor and around fixtures happens once the full image is in place. Most single-wall murals are finished in one visit.
Keeping the image crisp
Hold the room at a steady cool temperature while the paste cures, and keep furniture a few inches off the wall for a few days. Clean gently with a dry cloth unless your mural is rated washable. Through the June to November hurricane season, remember that a long outage can let humidity build; ventilating and cooling the room once power returns helps the mural dry flat.
